I'm Lee White. And I'm Will Terry. And all three of us are professional illustrators. We've all worked for all the major publishers in the business. Together, we published somewhere around 75 children's books,

and we've all taught illustration at university art programs.

Yeah, each week we come at you guys with different questions, different interviews,

awesome things about illustration. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we argue, but each time you learn something, Brands back and new. Brands back a new. So our last episode, if you are a direct supporter of the show, this was an exclusive

supporters.

And one of them was about bookstores whether or not you should um

even rely on bookstore like have a personal relationship with a bookstore or a local bookstore

does that help at all and we had varying opinions on that but uh samantha cotterill wrote in

she was interviewed on this podcast last year.

One of our favorite interviews, this is an illustrator who has completely abandoned social media and now subscribes to magazines and newspapers.

And that's how she gets her updates on pop culture instead of

TikTok and Twitter. She wrote in to say, I'd like to share my perspective on the bookstore.

I think it can indeed be a valuable tool. For my local bookstore, I use them for any school

visits I may do locally. Last year, I spent a day

visiting four elementary schools virtually in my area. We set up an advanced book order and sold

almost a thousand copies with pre-orders. A thousand copies. That's impressive. The bookstore then

ordered the books. I signed and personalized everyone, and the store then delivered the books to each school.

It benefited my local bookstore income-wise and helped get the book on an indie list for that week,

which created further publicity for the book.

Now I have an established relationship with them.
