Summary
Thanks to Santa Cruz Bicycles, I took part in this year’s Stone King Rally. If you’ve been listening to our Downtime Goes Downhill series then you’ll know that Stone King didn’t quite go to plan and in this episode you can hear all about it. I’m joined by enduro racer Katy Winton, to quiz me on what went on. This is the deepest that I’ve ever dug physically and an insane rollercoaster of a week on a bike in incredible places with amazing people. I’ve also got some short interviews at the end of this episode with some of those amazing people that I met during the week. So sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Katy Winton asking me the questions.
If you’re interested in finding out more about Stone King Rally, then you can head to their website here.

| 0:00.0 | Hey everyone, I'm Chris Hall and this is the downtime podcast where we're going to be taking you deeper than ever into the gravity-based side of mountain biking. Before we get stuck into this week's episode, I've got a great offer for you from WeR1 Composites. Regular listeners will know that I've been a fan of Weir One Composites' wheels for many years. I've always loved the way that they've managed to strike a balance between wheels that are direct and really go where you put them, but they don't have a punishing ride feel. It's an impressive engineering trade-off to design wheels that handle so well. Not only did they ride amazingly, they're also super robust. In pretty much six years of using their wheels, I've broken one spoke in a freak accident where a rock flicked up and smashed into the wheel. |
| 0:40.3 | Otherwise, they've stayed tight and true with literally zero maintenance. |
| 0:44.3 | This year, we've been lucky enough to run their brand new convergence wheels on the downhill team, and I can confirm that We Are One have done it again. |
| 0:51.2 | Impact strength is up an incredible 32%, meaning they're even more robust |
| 0:55.2 | than before, yet they've kept that winning We Are One ride feel. Across all three team bikes, |
| 1:00.5 | we've been giving the wheels a hammering, but with no issues to report. For the month of August, |
| 1:05.1 | we are generously offering downtime listeners 15% off all wheel sets, rims and they're to package |
| 1:10.6 | bar and stem. |
| 1:11.5 | So whether you want their new convergence wheels, they're still very awesome revolution |
| 1:14.8 | wheels or their to package bar and stem, now is your time. |
| 1:17.6 | You can get 15% off until the end of August 2023 by using the code, |
| 1:22.5 | downtime August 2023 at We are 1conversets.com. |
| 1:26.7 | That's downtime with a capital D, no space, then August |
| 1:29.9 | with a capital A, no space, followed by the number 23 at we are one composites.com. Please note, |
| 1:36.0 | this must be entered at the very final stage of the checkout process on the confirm order page. |
| 1:41.1 | If you're enjoying the podcast, then there's a few things you can do. First and |
| 1:44.3 | foremost, share the podcast. Maybe that's telling your friends about the show, recommend in a specific episode to them that you think they'll like, or sharing the episodes on your social media. If you find the podcast provides you with some value, maybe you've learned something that's helped you riding or your fitness, maybe it's got your stoke to go riding or to come back from an injury or maybe it's just something to pass the time when you can't be out on your bike, |
| 2:03.5 | then it'd be awesome if you're able to do a little something in return to help the podcast continue and improve by setting up a small regular donation via my Patreon over at patreon.com for slash downtime podcast. That's Patreon spelt P-A-T-R-E-O-N. Big thank you to Julian Ebner, who joined that lovely list of patrons recently. Also, if you want to represent the podcast, then there's downtime t-shirt, sweatshirts and hoodies available over at downtimepodcast.com, for slash shop.
