0:06.6	I just wanted to know what was required.
0:09.4	Hmm. A nice honor.
0:11.0	Yeah. Well, what I was concerned about was my wife and I's age.
0:16.2	We're in our 70s, and I was just wondering how can we fulfill our duties as godparents being of this age.

0:25.6	That is a practical question to be sure.
0:27.6	So let me just give you the basic requirements as stipulated by Canon 874 in the Church's canon law.
0:34.6	I'm guessing you probably fulfill all of them.
0:36.6	So we already know that you fulfill the first one. You have to be at least 16 years of age.
0:40.8	You have to be a baptized Catholic who's received all of your sacraments of initiation.
0:45.8	So if you, obviously you were, you received your first Holy Communion and you were confirmed, right?
0:51.3	Correct.
0:52.8	Okay, and you're not the parent of the child being baptized,
0:55.2	right? No. Okay, and you're married in the Catholic Church and you attend Mass on Sunday,
1:01.5	and you make an honest effort to live your faith? Oh, correct. Yeah, then you qualify. So there's no
1:08.6	upper limit for whether or not one can be a godfather or godmother. So you
1:14.4	and your wife would certainly qualify under the church's requirements. But back to that practical
1:19.1	question, and that's not a deal breaker by any means. If you are of an age now where you're thinking,
1:25.0	well, I may not be here 10 or 20 years from now,
1:28.2	and that's not an unreasonable speculation.
