The good news of the gospel is only good news to those who hear it.

Philip the evangelist understood that. He did not keep the message to himself, but he went

wherever the spirit of God led him, and he preached Christ to those who needed to know.

The key to being used by God is simply being usable.

Now, God can use anyone that he chooses to use, but the Lord is looking

for people who are yielded to him, people who are entirely surrendered to Christ and given to the

gospel. We began our study of a gospel Christian, and we're examining the life of Philip,

the one man in the New Testament called

the evangelist, and I must say this as we begin our study, Philip was not the only evangelist.

In fact, according to the book of Ephesians, there are many evangelists, plural, given to the church,

as far as the office of an evangelist. But we're talking about someone whose life is

really marked by the gospel. He is a man who is living and giving the gospel of Jesus Christ.

And, friend, while all of us may not be pastors and missionaries and evangelists and hold titles in the church, all of us can become gospel Christians.

And so we back up today to the very first mention of this man in Acts chapter 6.

The opening verses of Acts 6 record for us a very unique season in the first century church.

It was a time of blessing and battles, and I'll remind you those two always go together.

Remember, Paul would have once write that a great door and effectual was open unto him, and there are many adversaries.

The door of opportunity really does swing on the hinges of opposition.
