0:49.4	civic practice of science that makes space for differences. He's also the author of a new book which I've recently read called the
0:56.6	genealogical Adam and Eve and that's going to be our main discussion for today's podcast.

1:03.4	Thanks for having me. It's great to be here and to talk to you.
1:05.6	So why don't we just start with a bit of your own background? Tell me what ended up leading you to write this book.
1:10.8	So I'm a scientist. I love science. This is where I spend most of my
1:14.8	time doing my work at Washington University, but I'm also a Christian and I was
1:19.1	raised in a young Earth Christianist house and as I started to learn more and more about science I saw two different origin stories.
1:25.6	It was an origin story that I learned in Genesis about Adam and Eve created recently,
1:30.4	de novo out of the dust and of a rib from whom we all descend and then the story of science
1:36.5	which tells us that we all share common ancestors with the great apes meaning bonobos
1:41.8	guerrillas,
1:42.8	chimpanzees, and orangutans.
