can Donald Trump win in 2024? Now, Dan, last night Donald Trump delivered the announcement that everybody was expecting that he is going to run in 2024, and there's been a lot of

sort of snarking and harrumphing

about his chances but you wrote an interesting piece for the spectator yesterday saying that

you didn't think the midterms were a repudiation of Trump and suggesting I think that he has a

pretty good shot certainly at the nomination in 2024 and perhaps at winning the White House again.

Do you actually think he's got a good shot? He certainly has a shot. Whether it's a good shot or not,

depends on, for example, how you evaluate his chances from 2016, which, of course, he succeeded

in winning the White House that year. But going into 2016, everyone thought, well,

Donald Trump doesn't have a shot. Hillary Clinton is obviously going to be elected president in

November. And Trump got the Republican nomination, but even after he got the nomination,

a lot of Republicans, all the consultants, a lot of the existing office holders in the Republican
