There are two versions of college football. And right now here we are, May of 2026.

The sport is really being asked which one it wants to be.

The first version is the one that made the sport really different from pretty much anything else on the American Sports calendar.

The version where a loss in week four was not just a setback, but it was in many cases of funeral, the version where Alabama and Georgia are playing in week one of October.

And both programs know.

They don't suspect.

They don't fear.

But they know that the loser of that game could very well be watching January and the festivities in January, quarterfinals,

semifinals, national championship, we watched it from their couch.

The version where the regular season was not a warm-up act.

It was the main event.

But that version of college football could be going into a different direction.
