| 0:00.0 | I'm Brian Lehrer. This is my daily politics podcast from WNYC Studios. It's Tuesday, December 21st. |
| 0:14.6 | So what happens now after Senator Joe Manchin announced he is a firm no on President Biden's |
| 0:20.5 | human infrastructure or a |
| 0:21.8 | bill-back better bill as written. And I don't just mean what happens politically, though we'll |
| 0:27.0 | certainly talk about that. What happens to people immediately affect it? Because the bill |
| 0:31.9 | wasn't just about benefits that would be new. It's also about the temporary child tax credit that |
| 0:37.1 | will expire that's already been |
| 0:39.4 | credited with reducing child poverty in America by as much as half for this year. Now, |

| 1:18.0 | And we'll talk about what else President Biden could do on either of these things without Congress. |
| 1:23.6 | And oh, yeah, there is also inflation and the supply chain, crime, and criminal justice |
| 1:29.5 | reform, and Omicron, all competing for Washington's attention. So we'll get a take on all of this |
| 1:35.8 | from one of the most progressive members of Congress. I think it's fair to say, New York Democrat |
| 1:40.4 | Jamal Bowman, Bowman's 16th Congressional District in New York basically includes all of the |
| 1:45.6 | North Bronx and all of Southern Westchester. Congressman, always good to have you on. Welcome back to |
| 1:50.5 | WNYC. Thank you, sir. Good to be on with you. Thanks for having me. And before we get to politics and next |
| 1:57.1 | steps, can we start with the child tax credit and what will actually happen at the end of the year? |
