There's going to be a big political conference in Beijing and top of the agenda is getting

China's economy back on track.

I'm Leanna Byrne and thanks for tuning in to the Marketplace Morning Report from the BBC World Service.

Now, just as I mentioned this week in China, it's all about the annual meeting of the National People's

Congress, which starts tomorrow.

And this is where delegates decide on what China's government policy is going to be for the year ahead.

And fixing the economy is pretty high on the agenda.

But the first thing they've done've done interestingly is they've scrapped the

press conference of the country's second highest ranking politician usually

delivers and it normally showcases these new policies here's the BBC's China correspondent, Stephen

McDonald, to tell us why.

This is a big change in power politics in China.

Now given that these press conferences have been staged events with only screened questions allowed,

many people might wonder, well who cares? The crucial thing is that it represents an even

further reduction in the power of the Premier

and an even further increase in the power of China's number one leader

Shijim ping. It seems that he doesn't want to be upstaged by another senior figure

in the Communist Party for even the slightest amount of time, even a couple of hours.

Now, these press conferences have been dull in the past but

they've also featured some big moments like when Wen Jabao used this media

conference to politically obliterate would-be leader Borshi
