It is three minutes after 10 and you are listening to James O'Brien on LBC,

where we will be wading imminently into the horrific events unfolding

in Gaza, and of course more broadly the horrific events that have been unfolding in that

part of the world since October the 7th. Let me tell you from the start that I will not,

whatever you say, however persuasive your contribution to the program may be, I will not be stepping back one millimeter from the position that the Hamas terror attack on Israel on October the 7th was among the most barbaric, bloodthirsty and disgusting examples of man's inhumanity to man since,

well, since time began. So please don't even think about arguing that it is an inevitable upshot

of the broader events in that region or somehow a sort of pressure cooker process that you use to almost or even

perhaps genuinely justify terror risk atrocities.

But I don't think you can justify what is happening in Gaza either anymore.

I don't think you can do it with the arguments that the Israeli government offered in the opening days, which worked, the determination to pursue Hamas, to punish Hamas, to eradicate Hamas.

But I think the impossibility of concluding that there is a rather different agenda in play and that that agenda

involves quite possibly the complete destruction of that part of the world to the point where

nobody who was living there on October the 6th will be able to live there in the future.
