Hi Dr. Melanie I'm good thank you so much for calling. Oh you're welcome I wanted to get your insight on how I can set up my relationship for success when we have conflicting opinions.

I'm in a dating relationship of about 7 months and it's getting serious but we disagree on almost all political and even almost COVID like issues.

So what is you said that awesome so it's getting serious and we disagree on everything so when you say when you say serious what is that.

You agree on faith. Yes and what faith is that okay you're both Christian so you love Christian so if I so serious means you've gone from holding hands like this to now you're lacing fingers is that where we're at now like it's it's crossing over.

I think we're just in a place in life where we know what we want now and okay so this is just first first if you all got married this be first marriages for both of you.

It would okay all right so you're getting serious you know what you both want you think he's pretty good looking he thinks you're hot stuff enough to keep around for seven months right.

You both are Christian so you have the religious thing down.

You just disagree on everything else and COVID what is what we do with that is like.

Well you know it comes up in ways you don't think but like even we disagree on immigration and I made a friend who is undocumented and I was unsure about how to tell him about that because I know he doesn't see that the same way I do or guns he owns a gun I wouldn't want to gun in my house we need to compromise on that somehow.

And on covid we both don't want to go to church but he doesn't want to for his own convenience of not wearing a mask where I want to protect my family and it's just we see things differently.

So you're experiencing something that hundreds of millions of people across the world are experiencing which is the pressure of covid is helping squish out disagreements and helping really magnify.

Cracks in relationships right so when you when you've seen some of these things pop out things like immigration guns i'm just gonna i'm gonna guess here you got immigration guns and mask so i'm gonna assume that.

Climate change is a thing LGBT rights is a thing whatever who we're voting for are all those things to like it's all this big pile of shenanigans okay so.

I want to work it out yeah I want to I want to be able to respect him but I feel like sometimes I just need him to make decisions I can understand with facts we agree on but sometimes we don't even agree on the facts you know and that makes it harder for me to respect his opinion.
