Hey I'm Brian Hyde and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

So as you may recall back in the year 2000, Cameron Crow made a movie called Almost Famous.

It was of course an autobiographical story, inspired by his own time as a teenage writer for Rolling Stone.

The movie didn't actually do that well at the box office at the time, but's since become a beloved modern classic.

And for the past few years Cameron has been working on almost famous the musical and now

it's finally open on Broadway. Cameron wrote the book and co-wrote original songs with Tom Kidd, who worked on Next to Normal, and the adaptations

of Jagged Little Pill and American Idiot, among other things.

So this episode is going to be dedicated to Almost Famous The Musical.

First I'm going to have a conversation with Cameron Cro himself and then I'll be talking with

Tom Kit about writing the songs. So here's my conversation with Kamencrow.

I must admit after seeing the musical which I deeply enjoyed and more importantly the audience around me really enjoyed. I went back and finally

re-watched almost famous for the first time since I started at Rolling Stone. It was just

too weird. I could never bring myself to rewatch the whole thing for, you know, psychological reasons.

But the movie holds up as well, although I admit it was weirdly intense for me at points.

I was there.

And I was watching it and I was really grateful that we had such an amazing cinematographer on the movie who just caught that feeling of what the time was like and it didn't feel like a modern movie but it didn't feel like a nostalgia trip so I was really kind of

happy with the kind of lingering feel of it. It does both it has that haze the slight haze of this is a wonderful time,
