In Cambodia, the only opposition party has been excluded from running in the country's

general election this summer. In a statement, the National Election Committee said the

candlelight party had failed to provide the necessary documents to take part in the vote.

It leaves Prime Minister Hansen, who's been in power for almost four decades in poll

position to stay in post. I heard more from our Asia-Pacific regional editor, Michael Bristo.

So, ostensibly a bureaucratic problem. Red tape, if you will.

Essentially, the candlelight party registered in 1998 as a political party.

And the Election Commission now are demanding to see that original documentation before

they're allowed to put up candidates for the July National Election in Cambodia.

That unfortunately has been lost. It was lost after the police raided the party's headquarters

about six years ago. It haven't been able to find it ever since. And so they're really caught
