We didn't have a podcast scheduled for this week. We were going to take the week off for the holiday. But then on Sunday night, the Patriots go out. They sign Cam Newton. That is just way too important not to discuss. So we had to jump on and go over that. Not just what it means for Newton's fantasy value, but for all the skill position players in New England. And spoiler, it's good news for

Cam Newton is a Patriot.

I mentioned the potential for this to happen recently if Cam was willing to take a

team friendly deal because New England didn't have much wiggle room cap-wise. And guess what?

He did. Ian Rappaport reporting that it's an incentive-laden deal could pay him up to

$7.5 million if he hits all the marks. At the time of this recording, we haven't

seen the complete contract, but that's what we're going off of. And Newton didn't have a ton of leverage at this point. If he wanted to start this season, New England was maybe the only team that was going to offer a starting job for week one at this point. So I will say off the top, I'm a little disappointed here, but it might not be in the way you think.

A lot of you might think it's because I'm a Bills fan and this is going to make the Bills path to winning the AFC East that much harder. That's fine, though. The Bills, they're still going to challenge for the division crown. I'm not disappointed with that at all. What I'm actually disappointed is more for fantasy.

And it's not because Newton's not going to be good because I definitely think he is.

What I'm disappointed about is more the public perception of the Patriots, what it's been

up to this point and what I think's going to happen now.

So when it seemed like Jared Stidham was going to be the starter in New England,

everybody was down on them from a fantasy point of view, right? And it made players like Julian Edelman and Nikiel Harry. Those guys were unbelievable values and drafts. And I hope it stays that way. I don't know if that's what's going to happen, though, because I've spoken about it before. I thought people were underrating Stidham as a fantasy asset.

He's not a great real-life quarterback, at least not yet.
