Summary
Calum Scott joins Matt for a moving and honest conversation about the battles that often stay hidden behind success. From depression and body dysmorphia to self-acceptance and sexuality, Calum opens up about the moments that brought him to the edge, and the strength it took to rebuild.
He also talks about the power of speaking openly, seeking support, and taking small steps toward healing, reminding us that recovery is never linear and there’s no single way to get through it. Calum’s story is a testament to patience, self-compassion, and the belief that even in the darkest times, hope can still grow.
This is a heartfelt, powerful episode about finding light after pain, and learning to love who you are, one day at a time.

| 1:11.5 | What pleasure. I've seen this podcast online and as soon as it came in, I was just like, yeah, 100%. Oh, mate. Thanks so much, man. Yeah, man. You know, I mean, because, you know, we were talking just before and I feel like there's something about conversations where someone's open and willing to go there. That, I mean, for me, I needed... |
| 1:14.1 | I needed I needed when I was in my darkest times right |
| 1:17.0 | and I was going through shit I needed to see somebody and I need to feel hope that I could there was |
| 1:22.7 | a path through this you know because people talk about struggle and they talk about kind of dark times and they're like, oh, just keep going. You know, I'm like, I don't know if I can keep going in this, you know, like, where is the end of this thing? And there is, you know, this too shall pass, I said to me. And I was like, shut up. It's gorgeous. It's gorgeous things. It's such a gorgeous thing to say in say. Yeah, yeah. It helps you frame things in a certain way. I heard something similar, but it was like, like dark clouds, this two shall pass. You just think that that's exactly what happens. Absolutely. With the seasons, with the weather, with your feelings, you know, with dark times, it does pass. It does pass. I think that's probably the whole saying that I've never heard before, and that's fucking awesome. Just giving you the missing piece there, man. So, like, like dark clouds, these two shall pass. Amazing. It's just, it's a poetic way of thinking about it. It's like, there's a really beautiful book called, uh, I think it's called the Boy in the Horse. Yeah. And that has like that kind of simple poetry where it's like, you know, the horse says to the boy, I don't know where I'm going. And the boy says, can you see one foot in front of you and says, yeah, and says, that's enough. Oh, my. Yeah. You hear those kind of, like, bits of poetry and you're just like, it's like profound. Absolutely. Because you're just like, oh my God, yeah, it makes sense. If you can put one foot |
| 2:37.8 | in front of, like, bits of poetry and you're just like, what, it's |
| 2:34.2 | like profound. Absolutely. Because you're just like, oh my God, yeah, it makes sense. If you can put one foot in front of the other, that's progress. Absolutely. I think, you know, what we'll probably talk about today, it's like making those small incremental steps, although it doesn't feel like you've climbed Mount Everest, they are stepping stones to the positive and the way forward and light at arms. |
| 2:56.6 | Yeah, yeah. |
| 2:57.6 | Yeah, so, yeah, I'm a big believer in just staying the path. |
| 3:02.6 | But like you say, you can't have just like, don't worry, or'll be all right or keep going. Those kind of things sometimes are just that helpful in a situation where you're at your lowest point. And it's like, you know, I've got a couple of friends, even at the minute, a friend I've got that's really, really struggling. And it's like, you know, I've messed up and my kids hate me and blah, blah, blah. And I'm saying, listen, you're still here and you're still fighting and you've not abandoned, you've not given up. And I was like, you've got to count that win that it's another day that you've seen through. It's another day that you can try and make change. The journey is the hardest part, but it's the most rewarding. And your future self will thank you for it. Absolutely, man. You know, what you just said about your friend, you know, like there's something about, right, when you're in that, you're like, oh my God, I've fucked up and everyone thinks this of me and, you know, and that's going to be, I've ruined everything. But time is such a interesting thing, right? Like, you never know what's going to be i've ruined everything but time is such a interesting thing right |
