Okay, we are alive. Hi, this is William Ramsey. Welcome to William Ramsey investigates on today's show of a very special guest. His name is John D. Herrera, last name, D-E-H-E-R-R-A. And Robert Frederick reached out to me and said, hey, you should have this guy in your show. You can talk about this kind of concept of the Article 5 convention.

0:21.7

Actual constitutional law, like actual legal procedure, something kind of novel considering

0:26.5

the Biden administration, but a means by which people can kind of redress complaints.

0:32.7

I don't think it's ever been used.

0:34.0

There's been other means of amendments to the Constitution, usually through Congress,

0:38.6

but this is like closer to kind of people and individuals through the states. But John can talk

0:44.5

more about that. So John, welcome to the show. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for having me.

0:49.5

Excellent. So for people who haven't heard your name or may not be familiar with these kind of concepts or ideas,

0:56.7

maybe you can talk about your background, how you got interested in this, and then maybe you can read

1:01.1

1:07.4

Okay.

1:10.5

I first found out about the convention clause of Article 5 in high school.

1:16.6

Uh, this was, uh, Calabasas high school in the late 70s.

1:22.5

It was a social science class and there was, you know, basically detailing some horrible parts

1:30.0

of history. And I'm like, this is ridiculous. We, you know, we can do better. So I actually went

1:36.0

and found a copy of the Constitution, read it. I found the convention clause then. And I said, oh, well, we just got to have a

1:46.2

convention. Then I went on to, you know, be, you know, stereotypical surfer dude in California,

1:55.8

artist, poet. And then in the late 90s, the writer Gore V. Dahl, I read one of his essays, and he talked about

2:09.6

a constitutional convention. And then 9-11 happened. And knowing history, I knew that 9-11 was going to create a vacuum of power.

2:23.5

The bad guys were going to get in there and start doing stuff, you know, Patriot Act, you know, all that kind of stuff.

2:29.8

So I really, it was a couple of days after 9-11 that I said, I'm going to do whatever I can to bring about a convention.

2:43.4

And then, so I carried on there for a couple of years, reading everything I could.
