The California primary is virtually upon us, more important to the presidential nominating process than it has been for decades.

We have three eminently qualified authorities on all things political.

I want to begin with turnout because that's a factor in every election.

And it seems the coronavirus might have a big impact on this one.

President Trump insists that it's been contained,

but his own federal health authorities are saying it's not a question

of if there will be an outbreak, but when such a thing is inevitable. Communities are advised to

begin preparations. And all this as voters are on their way to the polls. So Professor Vavrick,

let me go to you first. Will there be an impact? Well, I like that we're leading by saying that one of the differences in this California primary is this virus.

And I think that my sense of how it might impact the race is not so much in terms of turnout, but in terms of messaging.

And I think it provides an opportunity for candidates to talk about their global approach

to things like health care, like climate.

Some people are better situated to make those connections than others.
