Here are some of today's top stories from the Los Angeles Times.

California voters made a major political statement Tuesday night, approving a Democratic-backed

plan to redraw congressional districts.

According to Cima META, Proposition 50 passed with ease, clearing the way for redistricting

that could give Democrats up to five extra seats in Congress. The ballot measure, one of the most expensive in state history, was pushed by Governor Gavin

Newsom and national Democratic leaders, who argued it was a way to fight back against Trump-era

policies, things like immigration, health care, and reproductive rights.

The campaign turned an otherwise technical issue, congressional redistricting, into a rallying

cry for Trump opponents during an off-year election.

He promised to make us wealthier.

We're sicker and poor.

And he fundamentally understands that. Why else? Why else would he call

Greg Abbott saying he's entitled to five seats? Why else is he trying to rig the midterm

elections before one single vote is even cast. He understands his position at this moment

in the United States of America. But it's unclear how much impact the measure will have nationally,

especially with multiple GOP-led states redrawing their own maps to favor Republicans.

For now, California Democrats are celebrating what they call a decisive victory,

one they hope will shape Congress for years to come.

And Democrats on the East Coast celebrated Big Winds Tuesday night as well.
