Some big news in college sports broke yesterday.

It's official.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 206.

Talk about a game changer for student athletes.

Now this new law would allow them to cash in on endorsements.

The NCAA though, not too happy with this.

They say this blurs the lines between college and professional athletes and will add confusion

to the game.

The new law bars colleges in California from punishing athletes for making money off their

names and likenesses.

As things stand now, athletes could lose their scholarships or get kicked off the team

for something seemingly trivial like taking money for an autograph.

And this is all connected to something the NCAA has been holding on to for a really long

time.

The idea of amateurism, that college athletes shouldn't be paid for playing a sport or anything

related to it.

The part of the game that's so great about college is it's still pure.

You know, and some people argue that, but it's still pure.

And they argue that if you get rid of amateurism, you threaten equality in college sports.

This new law in California is a serious shot across the bow.

And it's one of the most significant attacks on the NCAA that we've seen to date.
