Hello and welcome to the Retro Hour podcast episode number 118, your weekly dose of retro gaming

and technology news with me Dan Wood. And me, Ravi Abbott. At the time we're recording this show, it's actually a different day that we're in today. And just so happens to be the first day of summer by looking at the window right now. Yeah, we're trapped in the studio, but it's been really horrible, isn't it, this winter? It's kind of been massively foggy, like... Snow, sleet. You were driving me home the other day

and it was like, we couldn't see the proper. Yeah. It's crazy. But today, I've got text off my mates, you know, beer, garden weather, we're going out, and I'm like, oh, I'm going to record the podcast. I'm like, what? But I mean, we normally do record this show in the week on the evenings, but there has to be a really good reason for us to come in here on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon, but it is well worth it.

Now, today, we have got an absolute legend on the retro at our podcast.

Yes, now, Chuck Somerville is absolutely amazing.

He started doing Apple 2 games and you know

John Romero was one of the guys that actually completed his game and then he went on to

Epics with the C64 and you know Epics they did the links originally before it came out to

Atari and then he went to EAA and then Fridio and then you know that maybe played around with the M2 as well Was that the ill-fated follow-up to the 3DO that never came out? Yeah, yeah. I did hear a story that because I remember there was that really amazing demo where it showed. Have you ever seen it on YouTube of the 3DO M2? And it has kind of like morphing out the ground and texture mapping it looks amazing but I heard

that apparently that technology was used in like one or two arcade machines and it ended up in a

coffee machine that was like it's a eventual thing we'll have to find out and you know he's bought you

the great chips challenge and chips challenge too and Chuck's challenge as well which is the new

version and a game that every kid at my school had, California Games. That was the biggest thing at my school back in the day. Summer Games too as well, we could go on, but I think we're just going to talk to Chuck himself and get those stories. He's going to be coming up. Our special guest, Chuck Somerville, will be on the retro hour podcast in around 15 minutes from now. Now obviously the weather is looking gorgeous now here in the UK and apparently it's going to get even nicer this week, a bit of a heat wave on the way. People are going to be out, maybe days out to the seaside, in the garden, doors open, music playing out. You might want some kind of feel-good music while you're doing all that. Yeah, well, I've been running this 24-hour YouTube radio.
