It's a big week in Manhattan.

Donald Trump's hush money criminal trial has begun.

This is the first criminal trial of a former president in the United States

history.

Before the trial, the judge overseeing the case rejected all of Trump's last-minute

attempts to delay the proceedings.

And now we have arrived at the crucial first stage of the trial.

Jury selection.

You know Judge Mershaun made a note in his letter to the lawyers about his view of what jury selection

was supposed to be about to the point of striking a jury.

And I thought that this was something that was really important because he seemed to believe that Trump's lawyers did not have the proper goals in mind.

So he wrote, thus contrary to defense counsel's arguments, the purpose of jury selection is not to determine whether a prospective juror likes or does not like one of the parties.

Such questions are irrelevant because they do not go to the issue of the prospective jurors qualifications.

The ultimate issue is whether the prospective juror can assure us that they will set aside any

personal feelings or biases and render a decision that's based on the evidence and the law.

And you know, maybe Trump's lawyers were there, maybe they weren't.
