Summary

This week Bob Fosse is clawing his way out of director’s jail with one of the greatest movie musicals ever made: ‘Cabaret’. Join Chris and Lizzie as they discover how instrumental Liza Minelli was in creating Sally Bowles’ iconic look, why Joel Grey cried after he saw the first cut, and which role Bob Fosse might have wanted to take for himself… We also find out why Bob Fosse probably shouldn’t attempt any more backflips, and how a sordid affair in Berlin effectively ended his relationship with Gwen Verdon.

young to understand what was going on. And it's Cabaret. It is 1972's Cab Cabaret, of course, directed by Bob Fossie, which we will, he's going to Fossie it up. So just, you know, prepare yourself for that. God love him. But before we get into it, Chris, what was your experience with Cabaret prior to now and what was it like rewatching it for the podcast? I had seen it when I was younger,

probably also too young. As I mentioned in our All That Jazz episode, my dad is a big Bob Fossy fan. He does.

1:34.6

He was more of an All That Jazz fan. And so I was always more of an All That Jazz fan. And I think I even

1:39.5

said in our All That Jazz episode that I felt All That Jazz was the better movie. I actually don't feel that way anymore.
