It hit me as the simplest and one of the most brilliant things I'd ever heard all in one.

I thought, wow,

I've got to lead the podcast with this story or this idea that is not mine uniquely,

I can promise, although I've thought about many ways to start incorporating things into our

government schools to help our kids just be a little bit smarter about what the United

States is, where we've been, what we're about

historically, and where we are going. I think it's one of those things that we all think about.

And we think about quite a bit as our schools have come into the spotlight so much more,

we recognize that kids are not learning what they used to learn, that things are happening in our government schools

where there are incentives for the people that work there to graduate kids, move them

along, move them up a grade. We make giant scandals out of things like, did you know they're

holding back? Parents are deciding back to hold back eighth graders because their kids will

have a better chance of getting a college scholarship to play a sport.

Some of that's been going on forever in sports.

Apparently it's an epidemic now, especially with boys in certain sports where they'll hold them back a year

and try to get them a competitive advantage by their senior year in high school to get them a

chance to play in college and get them on a team in a school, upgraded in some way,

tuition paid for, something along those lines. And it's proven that it works. There's no question

about that. So we've seen that. Nobody thinks anything of it.

We haven't spent a whole lot of time thinking about what do we need to do for our kids in these schools just to help them be better functioning Americans. And it's really hard with young people
