| 0:30.1 | Hello and welcome to the Retro Hour podcast episode number 114. Your weekly dose of retro gaming |
| 0:35.6 | and technology news with me Dan Wood and me Robbie Appet. Now welcome to this week's show where we are going to talk a little bit about a subject that I think is kind of neglected in the grand scheme of retro gaming quite a bit. So everyone kind of goes crazy about graphics. And I was talking about, like, you know, if you want to make a modern remake of a retro game or you want to set an emulator of, the graphics have got to be perfect. That pixel perfect precision. But people often forget how important audio is. Yeah, and you're right. I've kind of noticed with some emulators, like, especially that At Games thing last year. You know, people will be like, this is a great emulate, but they haven't actually plugged it in and test the sound. |
| 1:11.8 | And as soon as I hear the sound, it's like, or skipping or not playing at the right speed. |
| 1:16.8 | You know, it's amazing how different people have heard different sounds because of, even with Sonic's soundtrack, you know, that was at a different rate. |
| 1:24.5 | So it sounded fantastically fast in the Americas. |
| 1:28.3 | On NTSC, yeah. And in the UK, we had a little slow Sonic that we're kind of used to. |
| 1:33.7 | That's weird. You mentioned that? Because I was watching that on YouTube the other day. |
| 1:36.4 | And this guy, he'd done like a pal version of Sonic the Hedgehog. He'd done a little play-through of. |
| 1:40.8 | And all the comments are like, why does the sound slow? Because it's people that played it on NTSC systems and never heard that. And I mean, that was kind of pre-internet, obviously. We didn't really know what was right. But I think you often get that. If you sit someone down in front of a game and the soundtrack is a bit off on the emulator, or like you said, that Segurac games thing, it sounds a bit weird. A lot of people who are not audio people through and through, they may notice something's wrong with the game, but not quite |

| 2:01.4 | something's wrong with the game, but not quite be able to put their finger on exactly what it is. |
| 2:06.0 | Not realise that, oh, it's just that this is an octave lower or something like this. And the kind |
