On this week's Marketplace Tech Bytes, week in review, we're taking a look at the layoffs announced this week by several major firms.

Some reports are putting the blame on AI.

Plus, startup character AI says it will ban minors from interacting with its chatbots.

Also, Nvidia this week became the first $5 trillion company.

We'll look at what that means.

We're joined by our regular contributor, Natasha Muscaranis, reporter at The Information,

and we began our conversation with those layoffs and the question of whether this is the start of an artificial intelligence-generated labor market disruption.

It's much more complicated to do a one-to-one comparison. I bring on this AI tool and I no longer need this exact human to do this job.

In reality, integrating AI, I mean, there's companies that are being launched in Silicon Valley right now that are just focused on helping companies figure out how to use AI in their organizations, let alone it being, you know, this immediate seamless overhaul that then gives them the exact, you know, number to cut.

Is this because of AI or is this because we've overhired and this kind of gives us air cover

to do layoffs because it does sound better on earnings to say that, you know, there's new technology

here and we are streamlining operations to look better and smarter than it is to say,

hey, we messed up, we overhired, and now we're trying to be more profitable

or at least grow more responsibly. So I think it's a bit of marketing, but I also think,
