And Instagram announcing what it called

PG-13 settings for teens. That's where we begin our conversation with Joanna Stern,

senior personal technology columnist at the Wall Street Journal.

This is obviously very good news. This is part of Instagram's teen accounts that they rolled

out about a year ago. And these

are accounts, especially for teens, that give parents more parental controls. And there's more

default restrictions. And so there are now going to be default restrictions that any teen that goes

into the teen account is going to see PG-13-like content, right? And they're trying to use that rating as something that people understand, right? PG-13 movies, maybe there's a little bit of nudity. There really shouldn't be any nudity on Instagram at all. So, you know, maybe there's a little bit of swearing. But for the most part, this is pretty, you know, family-friendly programming. And so that's what they're really trying to do, and they're making it easier for parents. They're saying, by default,

And they're making it easier for parents. They're saying by default, this is the setting, right?

You don't have to go in and change settings. You can restrict to be more restrictive content,

or you can loosen the setting if you're a parent. But by default, this is what teens are going to get.

And you're stressing default because that's a really important element, right?

We know from just usage studies that that makes a big difference.

Can you explain that?
