The White House wants to keep states from regulating AI, but the politics are complicated.

And its latest gambit to roll such a measure into the Congressional National Defense Authorization Act appears to have failed.

We'll dig into what could be next on today's Marketplace TechBites

week in review. Plus, New York recently became the first state to enforce an AI law

designed to protect consumers from algorithmic pricing, and Amazon pulled back on AI dubbing for

some international content after anime fans complained.

But first, back to that effort to ban state AI laws in the defense funding bill.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Tuesday,

the GOP leadership is now looking at other places to include that measure

after reportedly facing pushback from both parties.

We spoke with Maria Curie, tech policy reporter at Axios, to learn more.

This isn't the first time that we've seen this. It happened over the summer.

And, you know, Senator Ted Cruz, who was really the lead proponent of this in Congress,

faced so much backlash and so much pressure from all sides of the aisle,

from all across the country, state AGs, lawmakers, advocacy groups,

that he ultimately voted against it.

You know, it did not pass 99 to 1.

And so this time around, kind of at the last minute here ahead of the NDAA, certain

Hill allies of the Trump administrations, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise,

tried to put this into the defense bill because it's one of the few laws that Congress
