Summary

In the beginning, God spoke the world into existence. He made man and woman the crown of his creation, image-bearers of the Almighty God. Humans have a special place in God’s created order. But as we know, it didn’t take long for sin to enter the world, corrupting this image and changing our relationship to our Creator. In this episode of White Horse Inn, hosts Michael Horton, Justin Holcomb, Bob Hiller, and Walter Strickland consider our true nature as those created by God and why it’s important for us to understand our origin story.

0:11.0	There are numerous types of non-Christian views of humanity.
0:14.7	You can have like a dualistic, rationalistic Plato.
0:19.2	You can have the determinism of Marx or Freud or Skinner, and then you have other like
0:26.4	tribalism, social Darwinism, racism, Nazism, or people who have a superiority vision of
0:32.0	personhood based on religion, wealth, sex, age, intellect, heredity, whatever you want.
0:37.2	But all these non-Christian views seem to divide into two different sorts.
0:43.4	One is views that are reductionistic.
0:45.8	That view people merely as material beings, not made an image of God.
0:50.6	They emphasize the creatureness, but only that.
0:53.4	There's no dignity.

0:56.1	The other extreme, I think, is nostic, downplaying the material aspect of humanity, so that the real
1:03.2	me is my inner soul, it's this illusory self.
1:07.0	And so if we miss out on Christian vision, you go in either direction, either reductionism
1:11.8	or narcissism, dehumanization, exploitation, and violence.
