Hi, from CNN. This is Madeline Thompson with five things you need to know for Monday, February 10th.

A federal judge in Boston has, for now, extended a pause on the deadline set by the Trump administration for federal workers to accept a deferred resignation and temporarily prohibited the government

from soliciting more so-called buyouts. The pause will remain in effect until the judge decides whether to extend

it indefinitely. The courts have been an important place of resistance to President Donald

Trump's sweeping government shakeup, and another opportunity for pushback is fast approaching.

Democrats in the House and Senate are engaged in a fierce debate about how to handle their

first big negotiation with the president

over the government funding deadline on March 14th.

Republicans in both houses will likely need cooperation from their colleagues across the aisle

in order to get a spending bill passed.

CNN's Manu Raju has some insight.

There are a lot of members, particularly rank and file Democrats, a lot of them in the House,

who say they need to fight now.

They need to be a steep price for their votes, including going after all these efforts

that the Trump administration is pushing.

But there's a concern among the top ranks of the Democrats that they go too far.

There could be a shutdown.
