joining me on the podcast today all the way from japan is daniel mills daniel is an american who is living in

japan and while living over there he decided that he wanted to buy rentals back

in America. Daniel, today on the show, I want to hear your story of how you built your portfolio

from so far away. But I guess my first question for you is, what are you doing over there in Japan?

Well, I'm a university lecturer here. I came about 10 years ago just to teach English,

you know, like many, I think college graduates do in other countries. And I fell in love with it.

I met my wife about a year after I moved here. And I ended up going to graduate school. And then

from about five years ago, I started working in higher education. Do you plan to stay in Japan

forever or for a long time? Or is this kind of a temporary thing? You know, we haven't decided yet,

I guess. Okay.

We really enjoy it here.

And I think that we'd love to stay, but, you know, we're open to different possibilities,

maybe moving back to the states eventually.

When you decided you were going to get involved in real estate investment, did you consider

investing in Japan, or were you

just more comfortable investing in the States because that's where you're from?

Yeah, you know, I had been reading books for a number of years on real estate investing before

I got started. And of course, you know, I was reading those books that were written in

English, usually centered on the American real estate market. So I did feel more comfortable about that.

But in addition to that, the Japanese real estate market is sort of very different than the U.S.

market, I think very different than most other markets in the world in that buying a house, especially a single-family
