Summary

After a quick break, the crew just had to return to the pandemic topic, as they remain in bunker lockdown. Stay-at-home orders and global shutdowns have had a huge impact on how we do almost everything—including, how we “do church.” What do church membership and commitment to the local body look like in times like this? How can one be a faithful Christian—serving one other, giving, loving our neighbor—when regular gatherings are not possible?  You’re about to hear a case for tithes and offerings—giving when you miss church—along with the implications of not doing so in times of need for the brethren and the community at large. Not to mention, a few suggestions for ways in which we can serve the most vulnerable. Visit MortificationofSpin.org to read the blogs, and log on at ReformedResources.org to check out what's available at the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals’ online store.

And we are living in interesting days, to say the least. We are in the midst of the

0:57.5

COVID-19 plague. It's been really, really interesting how this has played out, going from

1:05.5

something that we were thinking, well, you know, it's a little bit of a maybe a troublesome flu,

1:10.0

but, you know, we always weather

1:11.5

that well and we'll be fine. And to the point where it was declared a global pandemic, and now

1:16.9

we have whole entire cities in shutdown mode and local businesses and restaurants and coffee shops

1:26.6

closing down to the public, it could well

1:29.1

have, well, it already is having significant economic impact, but there's also, of course,

1:34.7

a spiritual impact because churches have been hit by this. We talked in an earlier episode

1:40.4

about just the challenge of doing worship together when you can't actually be together

1:46.5

and some of the things that the church is doing to try to have a temporary stopgap for that.

1:52.0

But we want to talk a little bit more on the subject, specifically in terms of what it means

1:59.2

to faithful church membership, being a part of the body of Christ,

2:03.9

what does that look like in a time where you're supposed to be away from everybody?

2:08.2

What does it look like to be a faithful Christian, a faithful member of Christ's church

2:12.5

when all of the experts are saying, go home and don't go outside.

2:18.7

Well, this presents obviously some problems with our discipleship,

2:22.9

because just in the same way as it did when we talked about worship,
