I'm Jerry Willis, and this is the Fox Business Rundown.

Friday, May 2nd, 2025. The April Jobs report gave us our first snapshot of the U.S. economy post-Liberation Day tariffs. As unemployment held steady and the job growth beat

expectations, many economists are reading this report with a sigh of relief,

while investors celebrate.

The unemployment rate holding steady will take that anytime we can get it, 4.2%.

And so I think we're generally pleased with what we see here.

The U.S. economy added 177,000 jobs in April,

notably when President Trump's baseline and reciprocal

tariffs took effect. Prior to the reports released this morning, investors and economists had set

their sights on the results of the jobs report to give us an early indication of what impacts

tariffs and market uncertainty had on hiring. The president posted on true social,

praising the strong employment numbers, while then renewing his call on the Federal Reserve to cut

rates. President Trump has insisted now is the time to cut rates, but the Fed Chair Jerome Powell

has taken more of a wait-and-see approach when it comes to the impact of tariffs on prices and

employment.
