Thank you. you get your BBC podcasts. I've come to a very modest looking warehouse in the middle of an industrial estate in Livingston,

a town just outside Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

Inside, an activity is going on, which is a bit surprising.

Scotland is well known as a producer of whiskey, of course,

but not this stuff which I've come to witness being made.

I love the sweet smell of that, but you probably can't even smell it anymore.

You're just used to.

That's true.

A lot of people say, just standing outside the door, they can smell the room.

I absolutely cannot smell it, honestly. It's not as powerful for me.

That is Paul Ruta Sikwa. He and his wife, Jaseen, moved to Scotland from London in 2017 with their children

to set up their dream business, a rum distillery.

It had previously been a side hustle called Mataga rum,

but it had grown big enough to go full time on it to take a gamble on the business.

Now we find ourselves as part of an amazing community of rum distillers in Scotland,

and we're all making fantastic Scottish rum.
