Summary

Energy is essential for everything from heating offices to transportation to manufacturing, so what happens when it just becomes too expensive? | 0:48.2 | Well, as you said, Evan, this crisis actually goes back to the last summer. |
| 0:52.8 | When we started to see gas prices rising, the gas price, |
| 0:56.7 | the international wholesale gas price, which we are tied to, means that the electricity price also |
| 1:02.5 | rises because gas-fired power generation sets the marginal price of power. So what we saw is an |
| 1:08.2 | unprecedented increase at the end of last year in both gas |
| 1:12.2 | and power prices. And clearly that ultimately feeds through into both consumer and business |
| 1:18.0 | prices. How badly are we affected by this energy price shock relative to other countries? |
| 1:24.5 | I mean, the gas price generally speaking, I mean, it does vary from market to market, |
| 1:28.3 | as you've said, but the gas price clearly has gone up for all key countries in the European |
| 1:34.9 | Union and the UK. The extent to which that impacts consumer prices depends on their |
| 1:40.9 | dependence on gas as a fuel for heating. And in the UK, we do have a comprehensive |
| 1:46.0 | network of natural gas. You know, most houses are connected to the natural gas network, |
