On the eve of the 1980 presidential election, many of the country's political and opinion

leaders viewed Republican candidate Ronald Reagan as a threat to American security and

welfare.

He was the thinking went an unserious ideologue, with rigid and simple-minded views and

little appreciation for the complexities of global affairs.

And yet Reagan, in part by exploiting the grievances of white voters in Middle America,

and a resounding victory, defeating Jimmy Carter in his bid for reelection.

In a new book, Reagan Land, America's right turn, historian Rick Prostin examines the

roots of Reaganism and finds a straight line to Donald Trump.

We'll talk to Prostin and explore the similarities and the differences between the rise of Reagan
