Brian Becker, the host of the Socialist Program and a longtime socialist organizer,

was a featured speaker and moderator at the People's Summit for Democracy,

which was held in Los Angeles earlier this month in opposition to the exclusionary summit of the Americas.

The Summit of the Americas was a total

failure with several countries boycotting the event that Biden's office described as a way to

forward his own agenda. In contrast, the People's Summit for Democracy was a celebration of the

successes of people's movements in our continent, a collective discussion of the problems that the peoples

of this continent face, like U.S. imperialism and its inherent oppression of us all, and a three-day

long period where leaders, organizers, union members, investigative journalists, and people

from all over the Americas built connections and strengthened relations for the ongoing

fight for freedom.

Brian spoke at the final plenary session of this three-day-long People's Summit,

summarizing what has been accomplished and what the new direction must be for this new movement.

Dieter Jackson, the national director of B.Y.P. 100, spoke about the need for socialism.

She became politically active at the height of the

murder of Trayvon Martin and has been organizing against police terror ever since.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canal sent a special message directly to the People's Summit

addressing the vital necessity of solidarity of the peoples of the Americas. And Gene Roach, co-director of the International

Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, addressed the critical struggle to free political prisoner
