Hello and welcome to the naked scientists with me Ben Valzler and with

cat Arnie. Hi cats. Hello. This week we will be finding out how new

technologies can help us repair and rebuild our bodies. We'll find out how patches made of stem cells could

one day act as a puncture repair kit for the heart and how soft nanotechnology could see machines

making the fantastic voyage around our bodies delivering drugs

to exactly where they're needed. Also we look at the link between viruses and

prostate cancer, we scan the brain for lost memories, find out how drugs change the

way your memory works, interesting, and look at the nearly published research

on plant pests on their genomes. We have news on the genome of potato blight which

caused the 19th century Irish famine and the aphid a pest that will be

familiar to all gardeners. Plus Diana O' Carroll will bring us the highlights from the British Science Festival in Guilford

this week and Dave and I get cooking to find out just what bones are made of.

Now in the news this week there's some very interesting work being done on prostate cancer.

Now there are a few cancers that we know that infection plays a role in them such as cervical cancer

which is caused by the H.P.V. virus, an infection with that, and some cases of cancer that are caused by the Epstein bar virus and now we may be able to add some cases of prostate cancer to that list if early results from the US or anything to go by and this is work published by Jennifer Stark and her colleagues.
