Summary

Every functional team is context-dependent on some level. Functionality looks different for a team of Navy Seals than it does for a team at a food processing center. However, there are qualities that all functional teams share. How are you meeting your goals and achieving results relative to other teams in your field? How much do people enjoy being a member of your team? How much do you trust that you will be seen, heard and respected when showing up as your authentic self? Tune in and learn more about what a functional team embodies and how to build your own. “I’ll go into teams and one of the things I’ll do immediately is ask everyone what they want from a team and they almost always agree on everything. Everybody really wants the same thing. If you start owning your wants and you start creating the vision of what you want the team to be, whether you are the head of the team or not, it doesn’t matter. Everybody wants it.”

0:48.1

Yeah, I mean, I spent a lot of time there, right?

0:50.4

So the 12 or so executives that I coach, I spend a lot of time with their teams. And I'm

0:59.6

totally fascinated and love, you know, creating functional teams. I'm really excited to talk about it.

1:05.6

Yeah. So let's dive right to the meet. We're going to have a couple of different episodes on teams

1:09.3

in general. But let's just start with the core. What is a functional team and how do we build a functional team? What does that

1:17.7

even mean? Yeah. So it is super simple and super complicated at the same time. So what is a functional

1:25.7

team is not an answerable question? I don't think there is such a thing.

1:28.5

And the reason I say that is because a functional team that is a cryptocurrency hedge fund is going to look different than a functional team that is elite Navy SEAL group,

1:52.4

which would be different than a functional team of a, you know, canned tomato processing house.

1:59.9

So functional is a, is context dependent on some level. There's

2:04.4

some way in which that's the case. And then some level, it is the case that all teams that are
