Summary

You always want to start with an ideal person who you are selling to when it comes to building  a brand, but how many of those people do you actually need to build a million dollar business?

It may surprise you to learn that you only need to start with an audience as small as 100 people. I’ve seen this in action multiple times, I’ve done this with my own businesses, and the brands in the Capitalism portfolio start with this core thesis.

It can be really hard to sell a product but it is really easy to talk to people. In this podcast I break down how you can build a massive business by communicating with a small, loyal group of followers.

From here it becomes very logical and natural to get 100 people on your email list, grow to 100 sales/day, and eventually cross the million dollar mark.

Hey everyone, welcome back to the show. Today I'm going to share with you how to build a million

0:08.8

dollar business starting with an audience of as little as 100 people, which sounds super hypey,

0:15.6

except for the fact that I've seen this happen multiple times. I have done this in my own businesses, and the

0:22.2

businesses in our portfolio start with this core thesis. I have been teaching a concept inside of

0:29.9

our membership at capitalism.com for years now, that you always start with a person that you

0:36.0

are selling to. Because it is really hard to sell product.

0:40.7

It's really difficult to draw attention to a thing that you want to sell.

0:46.4

But it is really easy to talk to people.

0:49.9

And it is very logical and natural to get in front of people that are the ideal people who want

0:58.5

to buy your stuff. And when you do that, when you speak to people who will ideally be your

1:05.4

best customers and you get them in your control, then building a seven-figure business happens very naturally on the

1:13.1

other side of that. But I have discovered that this is a concept that is very difficult to make the

1:21.0

switch into because most entrepreneurs get into this game because they want to make money,

1:26.7

because they want to sell stuff. And they come up make money, because they want to sell stuff.

1:28.7

And they come up with a thing that they want to sell, and then they go to sell that thing,

1:33.8

and they really struggle. They do a bunch of things in order to sell more stuff, like they run ads,

1:40.1

or they sponsor influencers, or they create a bunch of content, or they learn copywriting and

1:45.5

persuasion, they build sales teams. These are all good tactics. These are all good strategies.

1:52.3

But oftentimes, we do it as a way to compensate for the fact that we are not connecting with the

1:59.1

people who want to buy our stuff. For example, I have a brand

2:03.6

in our portfolio. I invest in a lot of mostly e-commerce companies, and one of the brands in our

2:09.4

portfolio is plateaued right now. They're having a hard time growing past about a half a million
