It's a recording studio, fairly basic.

Last night I went to see an old friend of his first ever stand-up comedy gig at the end of a comedy course,

with a load of other people also doing their first ever gig.

Today, very much the other end of the experience seesaw with my guests to stalwarts of the British comedy world.

Al Murray, who I think supported George Formby on his 1947 banjo mega-dick tour.

Yeah, I did open for George, yeah.

Mark Steele, who played the opening night of Hadrian's War.

Yeah, I mean, it's a dark crowd.

Luckily, there was no one there to record it, to leg it all the way to Carlisle.

Sir, not often I get to enjoy being the youth policy on the view.

George Formby in 1947 was very much an activist.

He was a partied activist. He got thrown out of South Africa for his system, black people, or his gig.

Yeah.

And his wife was this manager, wasn't she?

Yeah, she was really like really front foot with it.

Yeah, she was with it, yeah.

Yeah, she was also a militant atheist and he used to go to church every Sunday.

And he's got quite big squabbles about that as well.
