Hello, this is Bob, and this is the first lecture in an online course I put together at Princeton

a few years ago when I was teaching a seminar there on Buddhism and modern psychology.

For a long time, this course was on the Coursera platform under Princeton's sponsorship,

but then Princeton changed its Coursera policy such that it would no longer sponsor courses taught by people who are no longer teaching at Princeton, which is a description I fit.

So we've moved the course to a secret location on YouTube and made the secret URL available to all subscribers to the non-zero

newsletter. And as a treat for paid newsletter subscribers, we took the audio from the lectures

and turned it into this podcast version of the course, just in case an audio-only version

suits your lifestyle better than an audio-only version suits your lifestyle better than an

audio-video version. Now, there are a few places in these seven or so hours of lectures

where you might get some benefit from the video version, like when I show a graph or, in one case,

write actual words on an actual blackboard.

But there aren't many places like that, and I think you'll usually be able to sense where they are,

and if you want, you can check in with the video version of the course.

And even if you never check in with the video version, you'll certainly
