0:37.0

Someone Buck I fans will know well. We're going to talk with the Highest Statement Basketball Coach Chris Holtman here for the first part of the podcast and then we'll dive into some football talk ahead of big 10 media days, talk some big 10 and kind of preview what's going on in the conference after we're done with Coach Holtman.

But let's jump into it. Chris, thanks for joining us. Welcome to the Buck Nuts Happy Hour.

0:59.0

Yeah, great to be with you, Patrick. Great to be with you.

1:03.0

Yeah, appreciate it. Let me just start, you know, how's summer been? How do you feel like things are going both, you know, for you and for the team?

1:10.0

Yeah, good. It's been a good summer. Yeah, we've, you know, we're wrapping it up right now. As you know, Patrick, you get eight weeks to work with your guys.

1:18.0

So we're, we're wrapping it up here. They've got another, another week. They've finally got a little bit of the soreness out of their bodies from those, those first few weeks.

1:31.0

But, you know, we, we scrimmaged the TBT team a couple of days ago. That was fun for our guys just to be able to do some, some things a little bit different, but yeah, it's been a good week. Good summer so far.

1:43.0

Nice. Get to see some familiar faces with that TBT team.

1:46.0

A different look this year. Yes. I want to kind of take you back.

1:51.0

And I'm sure you've talked about this before, but going back to the kind of the start of your coaching career at Gardner Web, when you took over that program, which is obviously very different than what you have here at Ohio State.

2:04.0

Are there things that you learned from those early days as a head coach that still apply even at a program like Ohio State and kind of how you handle things or how different is it from from back then.

2:18.0

You know, absolutely. I think there are fundamental coaching beliefs that you have that you, you typically get from the people that you've watched or the people that you coached under or programs that you were a part of as a player or as a coach or just fundamental beliefs that you have.

2:38.0

And then those beliefs can be challenged as you go through the real thing of coaching your own team and experience in the ups and downs that go with that and over time, it gets refined and you know, your coaching philosophy changes.

2:51.0

What doesn't change is the fact that, you know, players really good players want to be coached. They want to be coached hard.

3:01.0

They want to be coached in truth as we say. And, you know, they want a coaching staff that's going to care about them, but brings a level of real understanding of what it takes to get them to the next level, as well as win at the highest level.

3:18.0

You know, those days were the difference was right bus instead of playing, you know, maybe McDonald's after the game as opposed to, you know, some of the like that, those are the differences, but the core principles of hey, it's hard to win on the road in college basketball.

3:37.0

It's hard to garden a web hard at Butler. It's hard at Ohio State. It's hard anywhere you go. A lot of those things are the same. What makes a really good player. Those things don't change either.

3:49.0

Yeah, I imagine, you know, having seen you guys after games and we're waiting for interviews and stuff, probably a whole different scenario at gardener web than what you guys have now with with everything.

4:00.0

I had one guy that never traveled with us, but occasionally on home games, if we went to this media, you know, we had the gardener web screen behind, you know, we did that.

4:13.0

I was there three years. I think we did that my last year. And on a good day, you'd have like two students and one of the local newspapers there.
