We discuss the hot topic of global surgery—specifically, how to advance your surgical career while pursuing interests in global surgery. This episode's guest author is Dr. Sherry Wren, Director of Global Surgery and Professor of Surgery at Stanford University. She is also Vice Chair for Professional Development and Diversity, and she manages Stanford’s educational surgical partnerships in sub-Saharan Africa. She was lead author of the recent paper "Academic Advancement in Global Surgery: Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure Recommendations From the American Surgical Association Working Group on Global Surgery" Dr. Wren will talk about her own career and experiences as a global surgeon alongside the working group's recommendations for academic advancement.
