Welcome to The Treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell. I want to have Brian Fuller in here for a long time, going way back to Dead Like Me, for goodness

sake. Oh, goodness. Yes, all goodness. And he's done a few shows since then. And his last two

series, though, have been adaptations, Hannibal and his newest, the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's

American Gods. He's here with this co-creator, co-adaptor, Michael Green. Guys, thanks much

for being here. Thank you. Thank you for having us. This is delightful. Oh, I'll fix that.

I wonder for you guys, basically two adaptations in a row. I mean, I think of you,

somebody who does original stuff, and this is interesting that you picked two things that not

only have a huge impact on popular culture, but are books that feel people think they belong to them.

They feel they have this kind of proprietorship over the characters.

Yeah, there's absolutely that level of fanaticism for both of those authors, Thomas Harris and Neil Gaiman.

And I'm just as fanatic.

And it was an interesting choice, you know, wrapping up Hannibal and being tempted by another adaptation.

And I had some reservations, but all of them melted away when Michael said yes.

What led to your saying yes to it?

Like Brian, I was a colossal fan of the book.

I was a big fan of Neil Gaiman's writings for a long time.

I remember blowing off work I should have been doing in college to go to the comic store and read the latest Sandman.

And I remember reading the book the first time when he came out in paperback.

Brian had a similar experience and just reading it and thinking, my God, this will be an amazing television show.

After 10 years of bad feature development, when people realize this is not a movie. And like Brian, you know, we both spend a lot of time

think about whether it's time to do something original or whether it's time to express your love

...
