| 0:00.0 | Now, are all the traitors present? |
| 0:38.0 | Let's get started, shall we? From rags to riches. I'm so sick of this. Working like a dog and being treated worse. Yorkshire to New York. Poor climbers, you and me. A life dedicated to revenge. Let's make this an occasion to remember. A woman of substance on Channel 4. Stream now. Coach is back with us now, so just reset the question real quick. Coach, I wanted to talk about last night first, and we'll talk about several things, but let's just clear the air on that first. Yeah, well, guys, thanks for being with me. I'm, you know, being 66 years old, I'm not as technologically savvy. I don't have my managers or my staff here with me to make sure I got everything right. Yeah, last night, and the reaction last night really bothered me. I'll take |
| 0:43.7 | some ownership for my words. So here's what happened. We're talking about Hugh and Davis. We're talking |
| 0:49.3 | about North Carolina. We're talking about a story program. We're talking about a great coach and a great man |
| 0:54.0 | where good just simply wasn't good enough. And so it led me into a discussion about why the profession is so difficult and why the game has changed, particularly off the court. First of all, on the court, the game is amazing. But there were some of the media that took my comments to say that I was not, that I was complaining about Auburn's loyalty to me. And nothing could be, you know, farther from the truth. That struck a nerve with me. Because you can criticize me in a lot of different ways. And I'm a big target and I get it. But Auburn was loyal to me at a time that others wasn't. |
| 1:28.8 | I was loyal to Auburn throughout my career. |
| 1:32.9 | And to suggest by some of the media and challenge me in such a way where, again, bringing |
| 1:40.7 | back up the challenges that we had with the NCAA or to talk about the fact |
| 1:48.1 | that after we won, I got a big contract. |
| 1:54.9 | And then, you know, just some other things about Stephen being hired and my being able to |
| 1:59.7 | retain that staff that had developed this program |
| 2:02.9 | to the point where we became nationally competitive and we still are. |
| 2:06.6 | Man, that was just a reach. |
| 2:09.1 | Because everybody that heard me knew I was talking about the profession. |
| 2:12.8 | I was talking about, you know, the challenges with NIL and free agency and having to renegotiate every year with |
| 2:19.8 | players and there being no loyalty. I had a situation at Tennessee where Tennessee definitely |
| 2:26.6 | was not loyal to me and I was loyal to Tennessee. I had opportunities to leave Tennessee on many |
| 2:32.0 | occasions for bigger money and what perceived better jobs. I didn't. |
| 2:37.0 | I made a mistake. I took ownership of that mistake, but Tennessee did not have to fire me, |
| 2:42.0 | and they did. And so there's been some lack of loyalty in my career, and it bothers me, |
| 2:48.0 | because it's one of the things that's made me a successful coach has been the |
| 2:53.2 | retention of my staff year after year after year guys that have stayed my teams. |
