We're going over to Major General Chip Chapman, former senior British military advisor,

the US Central Command. He's in Brittany, because of course today is the 80th anniversary of Dedei,

Rishi Sunak and Kirstama and King Charles all over in Normandy right now.

Major General Chip, a very good morning to you.

Good morning, Mike. It's a very interesting day today, isn't it? Because it makes us all remember

those times when so many brave young men took their lives in their hands, literally. We were talking

yesterday to Simon Diggins and saying,

you know, only yesterday people were sitting around waiting to get on boats, waiting to embark,

waiting to go to Normandy without really any real knowledge of whether they were going to come back.

Well, that's right. And it's 724, I think, over in the UK. And it was 725 in 1944 that the British beaches started to land.

It was 625 on the American beaches because the tide played a real big role here.

And we've already had the first casualties.

The first casualty occurred at something like 016 on the Pegasus Bridge, one of the key bridges that needed to be taken by the airborne forces in one of the, to secure the flanks.

We're somewhere off by you at the moment.

Of course, that shows you the human cost because that's the biggest British cemetery in Normandy and there are 1800 on a memorial

there who have no known grave.

Yeah, I mean, the day obviously will be one where people remember their lost loved ones,

their relatives.

We had a guy on just the other day whose uncle was on one of the first landings.

He was actually an Australian who died that day,

but was rewarded with an honour
