So, Sol, we're here today to talk about the age of the British redcoats. Now, I wonder if we could

start by explaining to our listeners what exactly we mean by this term. Who were the Redcoats? Which period in British

history are we talking about here? We're really talking the 17th to the 19th century, but specifically,

I suppose, the great age of the Redcoat was the start of the modern British army, which was 1661,

moving all the way to Waterloo in 1815. In actual fact, of course, red coats were worn

for most of the rest of the 19th century. But that was really the heyday of what you would

describe the period of the red coat. Who were the red coats? Well, they were

mainly infantry. There were some cavalry who also wore the red coat, but it was chiefly infantry

fighting during that period. And that leads us to a question which has been submitted on
