Starting today, the Trump administration is changing the rules so it can fast track deportations.

The change from the Department of Homeland Security means hundreds of thousands of people

could be sent out of the US without an immigration hearing first.

NBC News says the change affects undocumented immigrants

anywhere in the US who have been in the country less than two years.

Keep in mind, this so-called expedited removal has been around for more than two decades, but until now, it

only applied to people who were arrested within 100 miles of the border and have only been in the

U.S. two weeks or less, not two years.

So in other words, this change will likely lead to a larger number of migrants removed

from the country without a hearing.

The Washington Post reports the Trump administration says the change is going to help deal with

the backlog in immigration courts and free up space in detention centers.

But the ACLU plans to sue saying the rule change is unlawful.
