The late historian of religion James Carse (1932-2020) made a radical proposal in his 2012 book, The Religious Case Against Belief. He argued that beliefs, far from being central to or definitive of religion, are actually antithetical to religious community. A religion’s historical longevity, he argued, depends on its ability to absorb and neutralize beliefs—epistemological dead ends built on willful ignorance. “The challenge to religion,” Carse says, “is not its opponents from without, but its believers from within, and the real enemy of religion is belief itself.” What does this mean for a project like Conspirituality and other projects of disillusionment carried out in the shadow of New Atheism and other modern skeptical movements? Blair Hodges of the Fireside and Family Proclamations podcasts joins Matthew to discuss a potential casualty of the battle against religious extremism: a nuanced understanding of religion itself. Derek here from Conspiruality, and you might be able to break the cycle of doom scrolling

on Elon Musk's haunted Twitter by tuning into the crooked Media Podcast offline with John Favreau.

I have been a Cricket Media fan since the company was founded and I'm really excited to be talking

about offline because it's a different kind of Sunday show.

It's a chance to step outside our social media fueled news cycles and hear smarter, lighter

conversations about how chronically online existence shapes the way that we live, work, and interact with the world around us.

Each week, John Favreau is joined by notable guests like Stephen Colbert, Hassan Piker, ContraPoints, Margaret Atwood,

what, all for intimate conversations about how to live happier, healthier lives, both on and offline.

New episodes of offline with John Favreau drop every Sunday

wherever you get your podcasts.

This episode is brought to you by the Jordan Harbinger Show.

Do you want a new podcast to look forward to each week?

One that's entertaining, informative, and packed with actionable content?

Come on, of course you do.

The average podcast listener has six shows in rotation,

so you're most likely not just listening

to conspiratoriality.

And that's totally OK.

I'd love to share a podcast to add to your list. The Jordan

Harbinger show is a top shelf podcast named Best of Apple in 2018 so don't just

ignore my suggestion to listen to this one like you probably do
