Welcome to Bridgetown Daily for Friday, June 26.

We are heading into the weekend and with that into the Sabbath for my family, Friday is

the preparation day.

We are gearing up.

It's grocery shopping and last minute, you know, today's my day off.

So it's last minute house cleaning and answering email or two and gear up in our spirit for

an entire day set aside to stop and rest and delight and worship.

But Sabbath in the season that we are all living through right now is a bit odd and tricky

and counterintuitive.

How do you rest and delight and worship when it feels like man, the world is just kind

of coming apart at the seams?

You know, in the Jewish tradition, there are over three millennia of cumulative wisdom

on the practice of Sabbath.

And you hear a lot of the language of welcome for the Sabbath and the Jewish tradition,

you welcome the Sabbath into your home.

Like it's a special guest or like a visiting dignitary or in Jewish literature, the queen

Sabbath.

The spiritual life and you could argue the human condition itself is all about tension.

It's all about living in the kind of tension or the confusing in between of paradox, whether

that's Jesus as divine and human or the sovereignty of God and the free will of the human spirit

and we could go on down to the list.
